Bone Boxes
Bone boxes are:
  • First come first serve
  • Checked out for 3 hours
  • IN HIGH DEMAND SO PLEASE SHARE OR BE PREPARED TO SHARE
Book Borrowing
Students:
  • All students have library privileges.
  • Registered Students must present a photo ID to check out materials.
  • Up to nine items (including books, DVD's and VHS) may be checked out at one time for a three-week period.
  • Books may be renewed one time in person, by phone (949) 582-4526, or online if another student is not waiting to check out the item.
    • To access book renewls online: Go to your account
    • Click "Renew My Materials"
    • Username = Student ID and Password = PIN
  • It returned late, a fee will be assessed, and a hold is placed on your college record.
Community Users:
  • District residents over 18 years of age
  • Purchase a library cards for $10 with a valid California driver's license
  • OR purchase an annual Library card by joining our Friends of the Library with a tax deductible donation of $20 per year.
  • Residents may check out up to four books at one time for a three-week period.

Computers
  • Community Users who wish to use library computers must obtain a username and password from staff at the audio-visual desk.
  • District residents over 18 years of age
  • Must present a current valid ID, such as, California driver's license or Military ID.
  • You may then access computers after a 24-hour waiting period.
Computers
  • 70 library computers (PC only) with Microsoft Office 2003: (Word, Access, Excel, and PowerPoint) and read/write CDRom's. (The library computers do not support special applications or programs used at special labs on campus. You must use the particular lab in question to access such specialized programs.)
  • 42 extra computers in the LAP (Vil. 8)
  • Data is not stored on these computers you must use a flash drive or a thumb drive to save your work
  • Computer Login
    • Username = Saddleback email. Example = jsmith1@saddleback.edu
    • Password = MySite Password
    • Once you end your session, be sure to log off.
  • Wireless is available in the Library.
  • Wireless access for Students
    • Username= first part of Saddleback email. Example=jsmith1

  • Printing
    • Black and white= .10 cents per page.
    • Color= .75 cents per page.
    • You must purchase a printer debit card (available in the Library) in one-dollar increments. A one-time cost of .35 cents is charged for the debit card.
    • Money can be added to your card in one, five, ten, and twenty dollar increments
    • Change can be added (nickel, dime, quarter) to your card by using the money tower next to any of the copiers
    • The library cannot provide change for dollar bills of any denomination.
  • Acceptable Use Policy of the South Orange County Community College District. Use of computers is intended for academic and curricular pursuits, and personal enrichment. Abuse of District Policy may result in suspension of Internet access.
Computer Help Desk
  • Computer Help Desk is available Monday-Friday 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM.
  • Computer Help Desk staff can verify your username and re-set your password. They can also assist with the software programs on the computers, and other issues with the Library computers.
Copy Machines
  • Five photocopiers are available in the Library and one of the copiers is ADA compliant
  • One color photocopier, .65 for a color copy only accepts change
  • .10 per copy for black and white
  • The black and white photocopiers will take change, dollar bills, and printer debit cards
  • Change can be added (nickel, dime, quarter) to your card by using the money tower next to any of the copiers
Faculty Services
Friends of the Library
  • Join the Friends of the Library. We are always looking or new members.
  • The Friends of the Library is a nonprofit organization under the aegis of the Saddleback College Foundation, promoting the interests of the Saddleback College Library as a cultural, educational, research and recreational part of the College and the community.
  • The Friends of the Library hold an ongoing book sale in the lobby of the Library.
Interlibrary Loans (ILL)
  • ILL's are available during fall and spring semester.
  • The requestor must pay any costs charged by the lending library.
  • Books generally take two to three weeks to arrive.
Library Cards
  • Your Saddleback ID is your library card.
  • Community Users
    • District residents over 18 years of age may obtain library cards upon presentation of valid California driver's license or other ID with current address and payment of $10 for six months or an annual card by joining our Friends of the Library with a tax deductible donation of $20 per year. Residents may check out up to 4 items at a time (including books, DVD's, and VHS) for a period of 3 weeks.

  • Students have OFF CAMPUS access to several databases covering full-text articles from scholarly journals, magazines, newspapers and government documents.

Reserves
Reserve Checkout Policies
  • A valid photo id is required to checkout reserve materials/textbooks.
  • Borrowers agree to return items on or before the date and time specified by staff.
  • Loan periods vary and are LIBRARY USE only unless otherwise specified.
  • Renewals are granted if nobody asks to borrow the book while it was checked out.
  • Items must be renewed in person and you must bring the book with you.
  • If returned late, a fee will be assessed, and a hold is placed on your college record.
  • If a hold is placed, it will prevent a student from registering, adding/dropping classes, and receiving grades, transcripts or diplomas (California Education Code Section 72287).
  • If an item is lost, borrower must pay lost and late fees plus a $10 processing fee.
  • Instructors will be notified of items not returned on time.
  • Reserve Desk closes 15 minutes before the library closes.
Tutoring - LAP
  • The mission of the LAP (Leaarning Assistance Program) is to empower students to become independent and active life-long learners.
  • Hours:
    • Monday- Thursday 8am-8pm
    • Friday 8am-2pm
  • The tutoring services of the LAP are provided free of charge to all Saddleback College students who desire help. They try to provide tutoring in virtually all academic subjects.
