HONORS PROGRAM
COMPLETING THE PROGRAM
Although Honors electives are spread across the curriculum, the
Program has a strong base in composition and humanities, which make up its core
requirements.
At least 5 Honors courses
totalling at least 15 units must be taken:
3 core courses
and at least 2 electives.
To complete the Program in good standing, a student must have
been officially accepted into the program and must finish with at least a 3.25
G.P.A. overall and in all Honors courses. All courses counted toward
Program completion must be graded courses; they may not be taken on a credit/no-credit
basis.
Required Core Courses:
With an apology for the peculiarities of course numbers, over
which we have limited control, we proceed:
- You must take English 1A before English 1B.
- You may take Humanities 10A and 10B in any order.
- We strongly recommend students complete of at least one college-level
English class (1A or 1B) before enrolling in Humanities 10.
- Remember that the English course must be an "Honors"
section.
Students who choose both English courses may count the second
as one of their two Honors electives. For a list of the current semester's course
offerings, check the Honors Course
Schedule.
Nota Bene:
In order to participate in Honors transfer
agreements, students must contact the Honors Program Chair and the Honors
Counselor at the beginning of the academic year before they expect to be graduated
and/or transfer. Most transfer agreements have requirements beyond Program completion.
Students must, through ongoing communication with a counselor and the Honors
Program Chair, learn the particular requirements of the institution to which
they hope to transfer.
In order to be certified as eligible for the benefits of
Program completion, students must contact the Honors Program
Chair at the beginning of the semester they expect to complete the Program.
Students may, through petition to the Honors Board, count one
or more classes taken through Honors programs at other community colleges, four-year
colleges, and universities. This is decided on a case-by-case basis; interested
students should contact the Honors Program Office (e-mail address below).
For information on the Honors Program, honor societies or academic
honors, contact the Honors Program Office in person at LIB 112, by phone at
(949)582-4853, or by e-mail to Carolyn
