January 1, 2008 |

The Horticulture and Landscape Design Department at Saddleback College awards scholarships annually to several students majoring in Ornamental Horticulture or Landscape Design. These awards are separate from those given by through the Financial Assistance Office, which must be applied for separately. Our awards generally range from $500 to $1000. In order to apply for one of the Horticulture and Landscape Design awards you must be a declared Horticulture major at Saddleback College. If you have not already declared your major you will need to do this prior to submitting your application. In declaring your major, you will only have the option of selecting Horticulture (as opposed to Ornamental Horlticulture or Landscape Design). When you are ready to apply, go to our Horticulture Scholarship Application , fill it out, and submit it online. You will receive a reply in a day or two asking you for references and informing you of the page location for the reference sheet which you need to pass along to those recommending you. Remember, though, that the next application period does not open until Jan. 1, 2008. When you fill our this online application, you will also be applying for scholarships from the Tustin Garden Club, the San Clemente Garden Club, and the Laguna Beach Garden Club. No additional paperwork is required and it is very likely that some students will receive awards from more than one source. In evaluating awards, each Garden Club and the Horticulture Department sets it own criteria. However, the most important factors tend to be 1) intent of the student to work in horticulture, 2) courses completed and grades received, 3) need, and 4) how the money will be used. Please read your application carefully before submitting it as it will not be editing for spelling or grammar. The deadline for applications and references is March 20, 2008 Good Luck!
