INTERPRETER FOR THE DEAF

The Interpreting program begins with a two-year study of a second language, American Sign Language, to prepare you to communicate and to work with deaf people at the paraprofessional level. To gain access to the Interpreting program, the completion of the American Sign Language Level I-IV (ASL 32, 33, 34 & 35), and Deaf Culture courses, SL 127- Implications of Deafness and SL 128- Deaf People in the Community with a grade average of “B” or better are the prerequisites.

Overviews deafness as it relates to the deaf person’s language development, education, personal and social development. Provider approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing. Provider number CEP60 for 30 contact hours.

SL 139 Sign Language Interpreting II Lab- 1 unit
SL 140 Sign Language Interpreting II- 3 units
SL 141 Sign to Voice- 3 units

GENERAL EDUCATION GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS:
