Enrolling in Classes

All students must be officially enrolled in class.

Prior to the first class session

Per your registration time as noted on your permit to register, you will be able to add and drop classes online and by telephone at (949) 582-7579.

Students can add and drop classes until the official closing of a class (about 24 hours prior to the first class session).  Even when a class appears closed, it might reopen.  Please stay connected to add classes until their official close time.

After the class is closed

After the class is officially closed, you may still be able to add the class by attending the first class session.  If permission is given to add the class, the faculty member will give you an Add Permit Code (APC) and a code expiration date.  Use your APC codes to add the class online or in person at the Office of Admissions and Records (SSC 102).  This must be done before the code expiration date.

When you use the Add Permit Code (APC) online in MySite registration, payment is by credit card or debit card only.  When you use the APC to add a class in-person, you may pay be cash, check, or credit card.

What’s the status of your class?

Before going to your first class session, check the status of your class, including start date, location of your class, and instructor as noted on the online schedule.   Occasionally, classes change location, instructor, or may be canceled prior to the first class session and after the official class schedule has been printed and/or you have registered for the class.

It is your responsibility to drop classes you no longer plan to attend.  You may drop a class online through MySite – Classes – Register Classes (add/drop), by telephone, or in person through the Office of Admissions and Records.  For additional information on how to drop classes, click here.

Grade Grievance

By law, the instructor is solely responsible for grades assigned; no instructor may be directed to change a grade except in certain narrow circumstances authorized by the California Education Code, Section 76224 (a).

When you believe that the district grading policy has not been followed and/or your faculty member has made an error in your grading, you should seek an informal resolution.

Process for an informal resolution
Step 1 - Discuss your concern with the appropriate course instructor.
Step 2 - After discussing your concern with the appropriate course instructor, you may opt to meet with Dr. Flanigan, Division Dean for Social and Behavioral Science.  Prior to scheduling a meeting with Dr. Flanigan, you must complete the Student Grade Concern form and attach to this form with any supporting information and documentation to substantiate your grade concern.  Once your written documentation is submitted and received by Dr. Flanigan, a meeting with you and Dr. Flanigan will be scheduled. This must be done no later than 45 days after you knew or should have known the grade in the course.

To access the Student Grade Concern form, please click here.

Step 3 - If you are unable to resolve your grade concern on the informal level as outlined above, you may elect to pursue a formal grade grievance pursuant
Board Policy 5505.  This must be done no later than 45 days after you knew or should have known the grade in the course.  To initiate the formal grade grievance process, complete the Statement of Grievance and submit it to Dr. Flanigan for processing.

Faculty Concerns (Not Grade Related)

When you feel that you have a valid concern or complaint about a faculty member, all effort should be made to resolve this concern or complaint directly with the faculty member on an informal level.  However, should your concern be unresolved, please complete the following report and submit this report to the Division Dean, Dr. Flanigan.

To access the Summary of Student Concern , please click here.

For issues specific to a grade concern, please complete the Student Grade Concern form.  According to Board Policy 5505, you may not challenge a grade until the final course grade has been posted on MySite.

To access the Student Grade Concern form, please click here.
