Diane Lewis, Costume and Make-Up Designer
Diane Lewis has worked in the Saddleback College Costume Shop since 1991. During the last 12 years, she has been the designer for over 120 Saddleback theatre productions- which include a wide variety of shows ranging from musicals such as “Barnum” and “Rocky Horror Show” to classics by Moliere, Shakespeare and Ibsen, to children’s fairy tales. She worked for other theatres as well, designing and building the costumes for Gilbert and Sullivan’s “The Gondoliers,” “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” and the “Taming of the Shrew” for the Camino Real Playhouse and Shakespeare by the Sea. For many years Diane also designed and built competition dance costumes, winning several first-place “Showstopper” awards for her “Scheherazade” dance solo costume. Diane was also commissioned to build a large “Doughnut Man” for Winchell’s Doughnuts; it appeared on television and sporting events. Besides costume building, Diane also enjoys sculptural processes such as those involved with mask making and puppet construction. She is thrilled that Modified Bunraku puppets produced by her students made their debut this last summer in “Passport to the Arts” productions of “Rumpelstiltskin” and “Puss-in-Boots.”
