As a chamber musician he has appeared with the St. Petersburg String Quartet, and with musicians from the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Pacific Symphony and the G. Verdi Conservatorio (Italy).

rw36lite.jpg

Creating outreach musical experiences has also been a focus of Rob Watson’s performance vision. This has taken the form of unique recital and concert experiences (see “A Bach Banquet” and “A Musical Gallery: 7 Portraits at Christmastide”) as well as his creating and directing community concerts given by CSUF students under the aegis of “Pianists In Performance.”

Dr. Watson’s research interests include principals of movement in relationship to performance and pedagogy (invited papers for the World Piano Pedagogy Conference and the National Conference on Keyboard Pedagogy – 2009). As an innovative concept, Dr. Watson created the “Smart Applied Music Lab” at Cal State Fullerton using sophisticated scientific equipment, motion capture video, and other technology to study performance improvement for pianists, instrumentalists, singers and conductors.

Students from Dr. Watson’s studio have become professional musicians, and serve in institutions of higher education in China, Korea, Taiwan, and the USA. He has also led students in international travel and study in Austria and Italy.

Dr. Watson holds the DMA in Piano Performance from the University of Arizona where he studied with Ozan Marsh, and the MM and BM degrees from the University of Notre Dame de Namur (California). He has also worked with pianist Nelly Ben-Or of the Guildhall School (London).
