The holiday tradition just wouldn’t be complete without joining Clara and her Nutcracker prince to experience the enchanting Nutcracker Ballet presented by the Laguna Ballet in its sixth season at Saddleback College.  Over 75 Orange County students come together each year, under the direction of Artistic Director Shery Gilbert, to present this full-length Nutcracker, Tchaikovsky’s most famous composition and the most popular ballet in the world.

Mr. Mezo has forged a career as a soloist, recitalist, master teacher, and chamber musician. He has performed extensively in Europe, Asia, and North and South America. Always eager to pass on his knowledge, Laszlo has conducted master classes in Japan, Brazil, Italy, Switzerland, Hungary, and the United States. Currently residing in Los Angeles, California, Mr. Mezo is a member of the Pacific Symphony Orchestra. He is a sought after soloist, and an active studio musician in Hollywood. He has played in many film scores, some most updated blockbusters include Ice Age, Life of Pi, Wolverine, and The Lone Ranger.

The Saddleback College Big Band welcome Grammy Nominee Jazz Singer Tierney Sutton to celebrate Jazz Day at Saddleback College. Sutton is a five-time Grammy Nominee for "Best Jazz Vocal Album" as well as for arranging. She was Jazzweek Vocalist of the Year in 2005. For the past 20 years, Sutton has fronted the Tierney Sutton Band featuring pianist Christian Jacob, bassists Trey Henry and Kevin Axt and drummer Ray Brinker. They tour throughout the world and have headlined in recent years at Carnegie Hall, The Hollywood Bowl and Jazz at Lincoln Center. For 11 years, she taught in the Jazz Studies Department at the University of Southern California. In 2008, she became the Vocal Department Chair at Los Angeles Music Academy in Pasadena, California.

A performance by the John O’Gallagher Trio will delight jazz enthusiasts. Born in California, based in New York since the early 90’s, O’Gallagher has recorded extensively for discerning labels like Clean Feed and Fresh Sounds, and has been a mainstay of big bands for Maria Schneider, Kenny Wheeler and the late Joe Henderson, with whom he won a Grammy. The trio consists of John O’Gallagher – alto sax, Ronan Guifoyle – bass, and Jeff Williams – drums.

Jazz Day with Jazz Singer Tierney Sutton

The Saddleback College Big Band welcome Grammy Nominee Jazz Singer Tierney Sutton to celebrate Jazz Day at Saddleback College. Sutton is a five-time Grammy Nominee for "Best Jazz Vocal Album" as well as for arranging. She was Jazzweek Vocalist of the Year in 2005. For the past 20 years, Sutton has fronted the Tierney Sutton Band featuring pianist Christian Jacob, bassists Trey Henry and Kevin Axt and drummer Ray Brinker. They tour throughout the world and have headlined in recent years at Carnegie Hall, The Hollywood Bowl and Jazz at Lincoln Center. For 11 years, she taught in the Jazz Studies Department at the University of Southern California. In 2008, she became the Vocal Department Chair at Los Angeles Music Academy in Pasadena, California.

A performance by the John O’Gallagher Trio will delight jazz enthusiasts. Born in California, based in New York since the early 90’s, O’Gallagher has recorded extensively for discerning labels like Clean Feed and Fresh Sounds, and has been a mainstay of big bands for Maria Schneider, Kenny Wheeler and the late Joe Henderson, with whom he won a Grammy. The trio consists of John O’Gallagher – alto sax, Ronan Guifoyle – bass, and Jeff Williams – drums.

Who we are….

Angels for the Arts at Saddleback is a fundraising and support organization for the Performing and Visual Arts at Saddleback College.  Angel members donate their time and talent to raise funds and assist with a variety of arts events on the campus.  The group is led by a volunteer advisory board of directors.

Why we exist…

Angel members believe in the importance of offering a full spectrum of arts to the community, with the college as the focal point.  These events bring together Orange County residents from all walks of life, for the purpose of enlightenment, entertainment, and inspiration.

 

What we do…

Angels for the Arts provide support for:

  • Scholarships for students in Visual & Performing Arts
  • Saddleback Civic Light Opera
  • MainStage Kids Children's summer program
  • Master classes with professional artists
  • Hospitality for guest artist performers and crew
  • Enhancements for arts patrons, such as the tram
