Book Loan Program
The Book Loan Program at Saddleback College began in the spring of 2009. It came to the attention of Counseling, the Associated Student Government, and the Foundation that there were many students on campus that didn't have the resources to purchase text books, yet their need was so recent that they didn't qualify for financial aid. The Associated Student Government initially donated $5000 in funds to purchase books to place in the Reserve section of the library for students in need to access as an alternative to purchasing the book for their class. The Saddleback College Foundation Board matched this contribution, making the total funds $10,000 for the spring semester of 2009. All books added spring 2009 can be found below (linked).
In the fall of 2010, the Associated Student Government donated $23,005 to the Book Loan Program for the 2009-2010academic year. You can access the book lists from both the fall of 2009 and for the spring of 2010 below. The spring 2010 book list features the title of each book ordered (multiple titles with the same ISBN# indicates multiple orders) along with the information on the courses and sections the books will be used in.
Books are chosen by the Bookstore Committee based on the following data, criteria, and information:
- The Bookstore provides the committee with data regarding the most highly ordered/adopted books for the largest classes with the most sections.
- The Library provides the committee with use data from previous semesters.
- The committee therefore considers books that are the most expensive per unit for the highest enrolled courses with the most sections adopting books from the Bookstore.
- There is a small fund for appeals. The Book Loan Program Appeal Form may be found here. Once submitted, all appeals will be considered by the Bookstore Committee.
Program Notes:
- The Book Loan Program is designed to serve the students in the most need, books are therefore available on a limited 2-hour check-out (at a time) basis in order to serve the most students.
- Books are housed in the Reserve section of the Library only available for check out on a very limited, 2-hour basis.
- The Library manages all Reserve information. Questions about availability, check-out and Library policies should be directed to the Library.
- Questions with regard to the Appeal Process should be directed to the Bookstore Committee by emailing adipadova@saddleback.edu.
Important: Books are available for 2-hour check-out in the Reserve section of the Library. |
