Dear Swimmers, Coaches, Parents, and Fans,
On behalf of the faculty and staff of Saddleback College, as well as the businesses and residents of the communities in South Orange County, I’d like to officially welcome you to Mission Viejo and our beautiful campus. As you may know, Mission Viejo was recently labeled as one of the safest cities in America. We are proud to be a part of this community.
I have been associated with Saddleback College for 37 years as a teacher and administrator and, as I prepare for retirement at the end of this month, I look back in admiration at the time, dedication, and effort that student-athletes bring to the college campus. I know that the training and effort which you’ve put forth during your community college career has brought you success. That success has earned you the right to be here this weekend, and it has also brought pride and notoriety to your college.
Saddleback has had a solid tradition of excellence in athletics since the college opened its doors in 1968. I have witnessed many athletic events during my tenure on campus and look forward to this state championship meet which will likely be the final “home” athletic event at Saddleback under my presidency. It also marks the end of our college’s 40th year of existence and, if we are successful as hosts of this event, will segue nicely into next year’s 40th year celebration.
Although only one will be called “champion” at the end of each event, you are all winners for continuing your education at the college level. I wish you much success in the pool this weekend and also in your continued educational pursuits and in life.
Good luck and Go Gauchos!
Dr. Richard McCullough
President, Saddleback College
