Head Coach MARK BLETHEN
During the summer of 2000, Mark Blethen took over both the men's and women's cross country programs as well as the men's and women's track & field programs at Saddleback College. In his first five seasons with the track and field program, he has led the men's team to three Top 10 finishes at the state meet (2003, 2004, 2005).
Coach Blethen began his coaching career at San Luis Obispo High School, then quickly moved on to the collegiate level where he coached nine seasons at the community college level and two seasons at the University of Delaware.
Assistant Coach MATT SHERMAN
Matt Sherman joined the Saddleback Cross Country program as an assistant coach in 2002. Since then he has helped to develop both the men's and women's cross country programs. While at Saddleback, Sherman has enjoyed a tremendous amount of success while working with the middle distance and distance events at the conference, southern Cal, and state level.
Sherman earned his B.S. in Kinesiology from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in 2002 and recently added a M.A. in education. Sherman started his coaching career at Cuesta Community College in 1997 where he worked as an assistant coach for both men's and women's cross country and track and field until 2002.
Assistant Coach TAZ MURTAUGH
Taz Murtaugh has been an a part of the Saddleback College track program since 1994 when he was hired as an assistant coach on John Klink's staff. He took over as the head track coach for two seasons (1999 and 2000) and then remained on staff as an assistant coach when Mark Blethen took over the program. Additionally, Murtaugh was the head cross country coach for one season (1999) and has served as an assistant coach with our football program since 1997.
