Saddleback women’s golfer Linda Edelstein had a nice showing at the state golf tournament in Hanford, California, on Monday and Tuesday.  Edelstein finished 7th at the state tournament with a two-round total of 163.

Edelstein was in the hunt for the individual state title after the first day on Monday when she shot 77 to finish in second place.  Unfortunately, both Edelstein and first round leader Ellen Krause (Bakersfield College) saw things go in the other direction on Tuesday, as they finished at 86 and 87 respectively, and tied for 7th overall.  Sierra College’s Lynne Cowen ended up taking medalist honors by shooting 77-75 for a two-day total of 152 at the par-72 King’s Country Club. 

Sacramento City College ended up winning the team championship with a two-day total of 668.  Bakersfield College (673) finished in second place followed by Palomar College (682) and Canada College (714).


The Saddleback women’s golf team had a nice showing at the Southern California finals where they finished fifth with a two-day score of 700.  The Gauchos shaved 20 strokes off of their score from Monday, with a score of 340 on Tuesday.

Palomar College took home the top honors in Southern California and advanced to the state tournament along with second place Bakersfield College.  Palomar’s Beth Sellers took home individual honors by shooting 3-over par for two days at Los Serranos Golf Course.  Saddleback's Linda Edelstein finished seventh overall with scores of 81 and 80 to qualify for the state tournament. Brittany Schlacter (90-79) missed the state tournament cut by four strokes. The state event will take place on the Kings Country Club course in Hanford on Monday and Tuesday, November 16-17.

The fifth place showing in the regional marks the seventh time in eight years the Gauchos have finished in the top-5 in the southern half of the state.

garyThe Saddleback women's golf team placed second out of five teams at the Orange Empire Conference finals held Monday and Wednesday at the El Prado course. The second place finish automatically qualifies the Gauchos for the Southern California Regional championship which is scheduled for Monday and Tuesday, November 9-10, at the Los Serranos course.

Linda Edelstein shot a 36-hole total of 162 (85-77) to lead the Gauchos to a two-day team total of 683. Santiago Canyon won the event on its home course with a 636 while Santa Ana was a distant third at 757. Brittany Schlachter carded a 171 (84-87) and Mikka Chen added a 175 (84-91) for the Gauchos.

Edelstein and Schlachter each earned all-conference recognition this season while head coach Gary Sabella was named as one of the conference's co-coaches of the year. Edelstein averaged 82.5 strokes per round in conference while Schlachter averaged 84.8 strokes per round.

The Gauchos return to the regional playoffs this season after missing the regionals last year. It marks the 10th time in the past 11 seasons that Saddleback has qualified for the regional championship tournament.

Santiago Canyon edged the Gauchos with a team score of 341 but Saddleback easily outdistanced Santa Ana (384), Fullerton (445) and Irvine Valley (no score). Brittany Schlachter (pictured) led the Gauchos with an 85 followed by Linda Edelstein's 86.

The Gauchos are now 12-2 in conference matches.

 


In one short week, the Saddleback women's golf team climbed quickly to the top of the Orange Empire Conference golf standings with a 9-1 record, picking up five victories in three days.

The Gauchos defeated all four other OEC teams on Monday (Oct. 5) at Los Serranos with a team score of 349, edging out Santiago Canyon (355) and Santa Ana (387). Linda Edelstein shared medalist honors in the match by carding a 6-over-par 80 while Brittany Schlachter added an 81.

Two days later, Saddleback defeated Irvine Valley in a head-to-head OEC match by posting a team score of 343 on its home Arroyo Trabuco course. Irvine Valley did not earn a team score. Edelstein led the team again with an 82 while Schlachter added an 84 and Mikka Chen contributed an 87.

Saddleback will host Santa Ana on Wednesday (Oct. 14) before meeting up with all of the conference teams again on Monday, October 19, on the El Prado course.




Saddleback hosted its conference-opening match at Arroyo Trabuco Golf Course and ended up splitting the match with Santiago Canyon and Fullerton.

The Gauchos shot a team score of 358, falling to Santiago Canyon (331) but beating Fullerton (428). Linda Edelstein shot an 84 to pace the Gauchos while Tanya Tran carded an 88.




Saddleback's Linda Edelstein shot an even-par 72 to win the Tee Off Classic women's golf event hosted at the El Prado golf course. Edelstein's score helped Saddleback post a team score of 326 to edge out Santiago Canyon (327) and run away from Mt. San Antonio (370) and Santa Ana (419). Freshman Brittany Schlachter carded an 83 for the Gauchos while sophomores Tanya Tran (84) and Mikka Chen (87) rounded out the scoring.
