Saddleback College not only fields outstanding athletic teams, but also teams with outstanding athletic facilities.
The BASEBALL field underwent $1 million in improvements in 1997 to prepare for an independent professional baseball team to share the facilities during the summer months. New infield sod, new infield dirt, improved irrigation, a new batting cage and bullpens, stadium lights and an improved grandstand area were part of the renovation. The baseball stadium (Doug Fritz Field) continues to receive upgrades each season through the hard work of the baseball players and coaching staff.
The SOFTBALL team has a choice of two lighted fields sitting back-to-back just below the faculty offices. Over $60,000 in improvements were made during the summer of 1998 and improved dugout facilities were completed in 1999.
The WATER POLO and SWIM teams enjoy an Olympic-size swimming pool, complete with therapeutic pool, underwater observation tank, and one- and three-meter springboards. Ten competition swim lanes with electronic Colorado timing system and 10 warm up lanes.
The FOOTBALL team enjoys a playing surface unsurpassed by any college in the state. Well-tended turf is not only aesthetic, but also beneficial to the health of the student-athletes. The University of Michigan Wolverines selected Saddleback as their West Coast practice sight before capturing the 1998 Rose Bowl and National Championship.
Surrounding the field is an all-weather track for the TRACK & FIELD teams. High jump, long jump and pole vault areas surround the south end of the stadium while shot put, discus and steeplechase facilities border the north end of the stadium.
Adjacent to the stadium is a state-of-the-art, 90-station golf driving range with two putting greens, chipping greens, sand bunkers and a classroom where our GOLF teams and students in our golf classes can sharpen their skills.
Eight lighted tennis courts support the efforts of our men's and women's TENNIS teams along with day and evening tennis classes.
The BASKETBALL and VOLLEYBALL teams use the 1,200-seat Saddleback gymnasium. Bold, thick red lines outline the main court.
The college also has two grassy practice fields for football and soccer, a strength-training center which was completed in 2000, a weight room, fitness room, combative room and a mirrored dance studio.
