It's now time to hand over the reigns to Alec Horton for the 2007 season and to maintain Saddleback's excellent heritage of winning programs.
Horton played under Otta on the 1989 team and returns to his alma mater for the second time. He was an assistant coach for the Saddleback women's team a few years ago and recently coached the Orange Coast College men's tennis team. A native Californian, Horton attended El Toro High School where he played tennis and was a world champion equestrian rider. He decided to pursue tennis as a career, training with the legendary instructor, Vic Braden.
Coach Horton is an accomplished tennis teaching professional and has been teaching tennis for over 18 years. He is a USTA zonal coach, a certified professional, and a member of the USPTA, ITF, PTR, ITA, USTA, and a lifetime member of the California Community College Tennis Coaches Association. He has been coaching college tennis players since 1991.
Coach Horton has worked with tennis players at every level, from beginner to professional. In addition to his position as head men's tennis coach at Saddleback, he also has a small tennis academy at the Mission Viejo Country Club where he works with highly-ranked junior prospects.
Saddleback College welcomes Alec Horton to its coaching staff and expects great things from him in the years ahead.
