Saddleback freshman point guard Cassie Klockgether was one of only three Orange Empire Conference players to earn All-State recognition this season by the California Community College Women's Basketball Coaches Association (CCCWBCA).
Klockgether earned second-team all-state status after averaging 14.0 points, 4.3 rebounds, 5.9 assists, and 2.4 steals per game in helping to pilot the Gauchos (21-9) to their first post-season playoff appearance in three years.
Conference MVP Courtney Ford (Orange Coast College) earned first-team all-state honors, Klockgether earned second-team all-state recognition, and Amy Richard (Fullerton College) earned third-team all-state honors.
The Saddleback women's basketball team had three players selected to the first-team all-Orange Empire Conference list following the regular season.
Freshman point guard Cassie Klockgether, freshman forward Keshia Moore, and freshman center Rekeshia Jones were each named to the 15-person list. Klockgether (Montgomery HS, San Diego) averaged 13.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 6.0 assists per game during conference competition. Moore (Perris HS, Riverside) averaged 10.9 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 1.3 blocked shots in conference while Jones (El Camino HS, Oceanside) averaged 13.0 points, 9.4 rebounds, 3.0 steals, and 2.2 blocked shots per game.
Saddleback finished the season with a 21-9 overall record and 9-5 in Orange Empire Conference play (third place). The Gauchos reached the post-season playoffs for the first time in three years.
The Saddleback women's basketball team, seeded No. 6 in the Southern California Regional playoffs, fell to No. 11 seed Mt. San Jacinto during a home playoff game on Saturday, 60-55.
The Gauchos (21-9) held a slight 6-5 lead two minutes into the contest, but Mt. San Jacinto regained the lead five seconds later and held it for the remainder of the contest. Saddleback pulled within two points with 13:11 to play, and then within four points with :55 to play. The Gauchos had a pair of three-point attempts go awry and the Eagles burned up the final seconds of the clock.
Freshman Cassie Klockgether had 22 points and five assists for Saddleback while Rekeshia Jones added 10 points and 11 rebounds along with three blocked shots. Keshia Moore added seven points, grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds, and added two blocked shots.
Third-year coach Fentriss Winn has guided the Saddleback women's basketball team to three 20-win seasons and three trips to the playoffs during his coaching tenure.
