Personal Interest and other Reasons
Besides transfer, vocational training, and upgrading job skills there are many other reasons why people attend Saddleback College - these reasons range from ordinary personal interest to meeting the prerequisite for a graduate program.
- Saddleback College offers a wide range of personal interest classes in all departments - popular choices include yoga, martial arts (PE), ceramics (ART), Photography, and the field trip courses (Biology, Geology, Horticulture).
- Entrance into most graduate level programs (Master's or Doctoral Degrees) or entrance into professional schools (Medical, Dental, Veterinary Schools) often require students, who already have a Bachelor's Degree, to take prerequisite coursework for admission. Consider the following examples:
- A student with a Bachelor's Degree in any major may come to Saddleback to take the Premed. coursework required for Medical School.
"Typical" Premed. Coursework = Chemistry 1A, 1B, 12A, 12B; Physics 2A, 2B, or Physics 3A, 3B or Physics 4A, 4B; Math 3A, 3B; English 1A, 1B and an additional English course.
- Before being admitted to a Teaching Credential Program a student with a Bachelor's Degree may be required to complete a political science course which includes California State Government and a Health Class, if these were not already completed in the student's Bachelor's Program.
Courses at Saddleback College which meet these requirements = Political Science 1; Health 1.
