Radio
The Radio Program is built around Saddleback College's on-air radio station - 88.5FM KSBR, and its Internet radio station - OCRockRadio.com. Students are eligible to audition for an airshift after completing two classes (CA110 and CA113). No other college in the area offers students on-air shifts after one semester. You'll learn digital audio editing using the latest software, and programming and production with an emphasis on hands-on experience. An internship can also provide students with positions at radio stations in the Orange County, Los Angeles, and San Diego markets. KSBR is also a community service station focusing its attention on Orange County news, traffic, weather, and entertainment. KSBR has received the Associated Press "Instant News" citation, AP's Certificate of Excellence for overall coverage, and is the only California Station to be a 3-time winner of the American Heart Association's C. Everett Koop, M.D. Award.
KSBR's primary format is contemporary jazz, but it also has weekend specialty shows featuring other musical styles like reggae, folk, ragtime, rock, Latin jazz, blues, and hip-hop music. OCRockRadio.com features a mix of alternative and indie music designed to provide students with the experience they need to get jobs at high-energy rock and pop stations.

Associate in Science Degree

The Radio Broadcasting Occupational Skills Award provides the opportunity to master the fundamental proficiencies to complete a radio production from the conception to finished product as well as to understand the principles of radio broadcasting and station management. The courses assist in student development by focusing on specific technical skills as well as working on practical assignments that mirror real-world tasks, including the production of broadcast-quality radio programs suitable for use on a demonstration reel and the hands-on management of the college's flagship radio station KSBR. Completion of this program increases the value of the technical, aesthetic, and project management skills needed for employment and advancement in a career in this field.
