Aquatic
animals used in the Aquarium and Aquaculture Science program are very important
components of this specialized program of aquatic animal husbandry and
their vitality and health, as an overall indication of their captive care
conditions, is the major objective for the teachings in the program. Best
management practices for aquatic animals are covered in detail to reduce
stress and disease and promote excellent captive results leading to strong
reproductive potential. In support of these efforts, our program has established
a network of professionals and specialists with the aquarium and aquaculture
industry to assist in the implementation of the animal welfare positions
with best management practices for holding our aquatic species.
