Extra Credit Reading Assignments

*Maximum of 15 points can be earned with “Reading Assignments”.

Each assignment is worth up to 5 points if all components are met satisfactory.

Below is a list of topics that you may select for reading assignments. You may use either the internet for aquarium/aquatic husbandry related.

The assignment must include the following:

1. Your name, date, instructors name, class and date (upper left hand corner)

2. A written 1page summary detailing the information the article presents:

· Include comments and your opinion as last paragraph.

3. List the reference in the appropriate way (look and see how they cite the literature in their own reference section, or see my reference section in the appendix)

*For Web sites: Author, (if it has one) and the entire web site address and the date/time you accessed the material-on-line. Include a printed copy with your report.

4. List and define or describe 3 new words or concepts or techniques that you learned from the article.

List of Acceptable Topics:

If you have a specific one and it’s not on the list below, ask me first!

· Species compatibility and other information related to its captive husbandry

· Water Chemistry: alkalinity, pH, nitrogen cycle, additives, supplements, etc.

· Propagation techniques of a marine organism (you choose!)

· Diseases in Marine Fish or Inverts (general or species specific, you choose!)

· Filtration; methods, devices, media, ect…

· Product & Brand comparison: Air pumps, power heads, water pumps or other related aquarium device

· Special marine aquarium systems (plenum, natural ecosystem, biotope, other …)

· How to construct or design a specific device for aquarium (protein skimmer, calcium reactor, surge device, etc…)
