Our female spiny lobster, of four years, moved into several tanks, each larger than the previous.  She now resides in the Lobster Reef exhibit at the Birch Aquarium.
The Melibes were fed once a day with a mixture of nauplii and rotifers.  They are also supplemented with live plankton, collected each week from our coastal waters. (8.../99)
After 8 months of captivity, and center of attention, our octupus turned out to be a female.  She guarded her eggs for 2 months, which turned out to be infertile.
The original "clump" of Corynactis, strawberry anemones was donated in 1999 by the Cabrillo Marine Aquarium , San Pedro, CA.  They  have grown in density and numbers and have spread onto adjacent rocks.
This juvenile garibaldi was one of  2 which soonn became the highlight in our coldwater reef tank.
Our female horn shark, after 4 years grew from 8.5" to slightly 3.5 feet and was returned to Catalina Island where she was captured.  The  male horn shark obtained that length with more girth in less than 2 years!

Many of our large tropical reef fish, like this beautiful Queen Angel, were donated to us. We place them in our "orphan tank."  They soon develop personalties and become our "pets." Some of these have been in our tanks as long as 10 years!
These species of surgeons and tangs do extremely well together and eat more algae, lettuce and broccoli than a  horse could possibly eat  in five acres of grassy pasture! Vibrant colors and plump body indicates good nutrition.
