CWE 168: Cooperative Work Experience
Aquarium & Aquaculture Science
 CWE runs for 12 weeks: May 27 - August 12. 
 
Course Description:  Provides supervised work experience extending classroom-based occupational learning at an on-the-job learning station at local public, research or commercial aquarium or aquaculture facilities relating to the student's occupational goal in the Aquarium & Aquaculture Science Program.  Student, instructor, and employer will cooperatively develop a minimum of three learning objectives. One unit of credit is awarded for each 75 hours of paid OR  60 hours of volunteer employment, for successful completion of learning objectives, and for attendance at scheduled seminar sessions. A maximum of four units may be applied toward major requirements for certificate. You must be concurrently enrolled in MST 207: Internship in order for this CWE to count towards the program certificate or degress.
View the list of possible internship hosts. It is your responsibility to locate and be accepted as an intern. I assist to point you in the right direction, but you must make this part happen - this is the "real-deal"
Review the following 3 forms, (see the links below.) You must submit the 1st form , Leaning Objectives, to me with supervisor signatures within the first 2 weeks of class, by June 10. You should also begin your hours on or before June 10. (this only leave 10 weeks to complete 60-72 hours.)  The other 2 forms, Time Report and Supervisor Form are to be provided to your supervisor/hosting facility. I will recieve these from them.
Form 1: 
Learning Objectives- You must write and submit 3 learning objectives to instructor prior to commencement of CWE.  They must be approved by your supervisor and instructor and be within the scope of your CWE experience
Form 2:
Student's Time Reports - You must keep track of your CWE time on this form (in addition to what your place of CWE).  This must also be submitted to your instructor along with your Leanring Objectives. Your supervisor must sign to verify your work hours.
Form 3: 
Supervisors Form - Your supervisor will be provided with this form 2x's during your CWE. This will o be completed by your supervisor and communicated to your instructor. Your instructor will collaborate with your supervisor with use of this form and be able to access your progress and assign a grade.
Additional Information:

You have 12 weeks to complete these hours. May 27 – Aug 12. Your hours must be completed and I must have all of your forms on or before, Tues., Aug 12 . No exceptions – failure to do so will affect your grade. Failure to complete any of the information results in an Failing grade 

I will contact your supervisor about ½ way through your hours, so you must inform me when you are at 25 hours. At this time I will discuss with your supervisor your progress and provide you with feedback. 

You are to provide your supervisor the forms to complete and sign. I will contact your supervisor at the end of your internship, 60 or 75 hours, to review the comments and assign a final grade.

Individual and small group counseling information such as academic planning and review of transcripts is available by appointment. All other student services are available on campus during normal business hours.

Email. This is the preferred method of contact rather than phone!  I check this at least 2 or more times a day.  Expect responses within 6 hours during the hours of 9 am to 10 pm.  Due to the large amount of spam that everyone receives, all of your emails must have MST207 or CWE 168  in the subject field so that they don’t get trashed. 

Office Hours: I am generally in the Biology Prep area, (Sr. Lab Technician, Biological Sciences) SM 234-6, during the hours of 11:0am - 8:30pm  M-Th and alternate Fridays, 8:00am-4:30pm.
