Natural and Social Science Papers

These 6-8 page papers are to be typed and double-spaced. In terms of writing style you should follow the MLA format. Each paper will incorporate 8 sources, two of which may be internet sources.

Topics will be assigned in class. One paper will be on a natural science topic (assigned by Professor Repka) and the other will be on a social science topic (assigned by Professor Twicken). If you are assigned a natural science paper in the first half of the class, you will be assigned a social science paper for the second half (and vice-versa).

Your first assignment for the class is to set up an account on the turnitin.com website. The class is listed at the site as Humanities 10B. The class ID is 4694909 and the enrollment password is twickenrepka. Everyone is expected to have an active account by Tuesday the 17^th of January. Anyone who misses this deadline without contacting Dr. Twicken or Dr. Repka will be dropped from the class.

Papers should be uploaded to the turnitin website by the beginning of class on the due date (The site will accept submissions no later than noon on that day). A hard copy of your Social Science paper should also be turned in at that time to Dr. Twicken (a hard copy of the Natural Science paper is not required).

Your papers will be evaluated primarily on content, but we will also take into account readability (voice) and technical aspects such as spelling, punctuation and grammar.

You presentations will be 10 minutes long. Keep in mind that substance is much more important than style.
