General Information
Over twenty years experience instructing at the college and university level as
well as teaching high school, junior high and directing programs k-6 has given
me depth and breadth as an educator. As President of Building
Bridges Seminars I work with corporations, professional, medical and educational
groups. Particular areas of specialization are interpersonal, group, public speaking,
gender and intercultural communication. My undergraduate work was done in speech
communication at Idaho State University and graduate work at University of Maryland.
Saddleback College And Other Teaching Experience
This fall will be my eighteenth year at Saddleback. I taught here from 1979-1989
and then a transfer with my husband's work took us to Long Island, New York for
six years. I returned to staff at Saddleback in January of 1996. Subject areas
at Saddleback have included Speech 1 (Communication Fundamentals), Speech 5 (Interpersonal
Communication) and I currently teach Speech 8 (Gender
Communication) and Speech 20 (Intercultural Communication/Anthropology
20). I enjoy the diversity of the student body and constantly challenge myself
to keep classes relevant and stimulating. Earlier experience has included teaching
speech at St Joseph's Women's College & University of Maryland, both in Maryland
and teaching junior high school and high school in Michigan.
Building Bridges Seminars
When we moved to New York in 1989 I incorporated and did business as Building
Bridges Seminars offering a variety of communication curricula to assorted
professions and providers of speech and communication education. This diversity
of audiences and subject matter provided me with exciting real-life experiences
not only developing and delivering presentations myself but also working
with individuals who were immediately using skills learned in their jobs
& communities. A typical day might find me teaching Intercultural Communication
at State University of Stony Brook's Continuing Education Corporate Development
Program in the morning, working with 5th. graders with a Peer Mediation
program I developed and then facilitating a Parenting Network group at
a high school in the evening.

Personal Data
Growing up in rural Idaho made me want to see what other parts of the country
were like. Since then I've lived in Nevada, Michigan, California and New
York. My husband Vince and I have two grown children, Michael and Katie,
and now live in San Juan Capistrano. I love teaching and strive to be open,
receptive and available to students ideas and needs. I look forward to
a stimulating and productive year at Saddleback.
