Study Tips:

  • Find a study partner
  • Use flashcards – repetition is key
  • Studying involves 3 major steps:
    • Organization of the information
    • Review of the information
    • Quizzing yourself
  • Study several times each week; breaking the material up into smaller sections makes it more manageable and less overwhelming.
  • Rewrite the lecture slides in outline format (I, II, A, B,1.,2., etc) or concept map format (or both!)
  • Free Microbiology Tutoring at the LRC
  • Take study skills classes offered at Saddleback (more info under Campus Resources)
  • For a 5-unit class, allow a minimum of 20-25 hours per week, outside of class, for:
    • Reading
    • Completing lecture outlines
    • Studying
    • Keeping your lab notebook current
    • Assignments
