Professor Reed was the faculty adviser for the award-winning Saddleback College student newspaper the LARIAT from Fall '85 through Spring '94. He was appointed the Acting Dean of Student Development for one year (Fall '89 to Spring '90).

He currently teaches Mass Media and Journalism writing courses and serves as the journalism program chair.

Professor Reed was named the 1994 "Outstanding Community College Journalism Educator" by the California Newspaper Publishers Association.
