PROFESSOR PETRINA FRIEDE

Welcome to German 1, German 3, and German 4.  Your professor, Petrina Friede, has a Master of Arts in German Literature (CSUF) and has participated in many postgraduate language workshops and courses in Germany and Austria.  Prof. Friede also has a Master of Science in Business Administration (Cal Poly Pomona) and her B.A. in History from UCLA along with a California Teaching Credential.

Prof. Friede is a senior faculty member at Saddleback College who is very enthusiastic about teaching German.  The last five summers Prof. Friede has visited Germany and Austria, immersing herself in the language and culture.  She appreciates diligent effort and is available to help her students.  Professional/business people as well as Saddleback Students and advanced high school students are encouraged to enroll in an appropriate course.

Professor Friede's German 1 students use the Quia online workbook and lab manual that can be accessed from any computer with speakers and a high-speed internet connection.  Thus students can practice their pronunciation (excellent learning practice!) and complete their selected workbook exercises conveniently at home or work without using the on-campus language lab if they wish.  The exercises are self-correcting and interesting.  Even though students will use their own computers, they will still need to register for the lab along with the regular German 1, 3 and 4 courses.

German 3 & 4 students will be improving their vocabulary and reading skills while reviewing and expanding their knowledge of grammar.  Conversation improvement is anticipated.  Short literary pieces, grammar review and refinement, and Germanic history will be studied this spring.

German 1, 3, and 4 are five-unit transferable courses.

On a personal note, Professor Friede's main hobby is keeping abreast of happenings in Germany & Austria through IPTV and other German language programming.  She enjoys sharing many programs with her classes.  She has also enjoyed covering events and writing articles for the Riviera magazine for the past five years as well as the Newport Beach 714 magazine prior to that.

If you have the desire and dedication to learn German in an upbeat but serious environment, one of these classes might be right class for you.  You will learn more about life in those fabulous German-speaking countries Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.  Give German a try! Viel Spaß!
