PH-50    Introduction to Photography

A basic level course in traditional black and white film based photography. Covers 35mm SLR
camera controls and operation. Processing of film and printing in a fully equipped darkroom with Omega D5 enlargers. Assignments vary somewhat with different instructors, but will include composition and portrait. Critiques cover both technical and aesthetic concerns. No prerequisite.

 

PH-55    Intermediate Photography.

A second level course in black and white photography. Assignments include: Fine grain/high quality printing, High Grain 11x14 printing, Wide angle (24mm and wider) lens, Telephoto lenses, Filters,
Toning, and on-camera Flash. Emphasis is on developing creative vision in all assignments. Cameras and lenses are available for check out in this class.

Recommended prep: PH-50. 

 

PH-190    Special Problems in Photography.  

Continued exploration of advanced photographic concepts and processes.
Assignments include: Polaroid emulsion lift and transfer, Macro lenses, Less than sharp (blur and de-focused), Still life, Glass (transparency) and others. Study and use of light will be emphasized. Cameras and lenses are available for check out in this class. Students may elect to work in film or digital formats.

PH-51  Introduction to Photoshop and Digital Imaging.  

Introduces photographic imaging using Adobe Photoshop CS3 software on Macintosh G5 computers as a means to control and manipulate photographs. Basic fundamentals, methods, and creativity are covered. This semester will also introduce Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 1.1, a workflow and image editing system. This new program, integrates with Photoshop or can stand alone as a photo editing application. Also includes scanning and printing (We use Epson flatbed scanners, Nikon film scanners, and Epson R2400 inkjet printers utilizing K3 inks). Camera not required.

PH-152.  Intermediate Photoshop and Digital Imaging

This class is the second semester course using Adobe Photoshop CS3 as a tool for creating and manipulating photographic images. A complete review of the basic tools, techniques, and procedures will insure the knowledge base required. Areas covered will include: Digital workflow, best strategies for creating selections and masks, advanced layer blending techniques, compositing with layers,  retouching and refining portraits, generating panoramas, multi-image composits, color correction and modification, filters, toning, and black and white conversions. Actual assignments will incorporate the fore mentioned techniques with the emphasis being on the creative aspect. Students will us their own images, working from either digital files, or film or prints. Adobe Lightroom 1.1 will also be covered. Also includes scanning and printing (We use Epson flatbed scanners, Nikon film scanners, and Epson R2400 inkjet printers utilizing K3 inks).

PH-160    Color Digital Photography

 

An intermediate level course in color photography using Macintosh G5 computers and Adobe Photoshop CS3 in the digital workflow, to expose, scan process, color correct, retouch and prepare images for printing. Technical and aesthetic issues are explored through shooting assignments.

Adobe Lightroom 1.1 will also be covered.  In-class output on high-end Epson R2400 inkjet printers (using K3 ink technology). Computer knowledge required. Digital or film camera required.

 

 

PH- 201 - Introduction to Digital Photography

 

An introductory-level course in digital photography. Covers basic camera controls, functions, and settings. Also includes basic digital darkroom techniques, storage, archiving and printing. Composition, light and portraiture are discussed. No lab. Digital camera required. This is an 8 week class.
