Rebecca Rollins is a Professor of Music at
Saddleback College in Mission Viejo, California and a pianist who focuses on collaborative
and interdisciplinary presentations of women composers. Since 1988,
she has traveled throughout the United States, Canada and Europe lecturing on and
performing the music of women composers. Dr. Rollins is a founding member of
Trio Sirena,
a group devoted to the performance of chamber music by women
composers. She also designed and teaches a popular course at Saddleback which
traces the history of women in music "from St. Hildegard to Madonna".
She received the Master of Arts degree in Music History from the
University of Minnesota and the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in
Piano Performance from the Claremont Graduate University.
Dr. Rollins has a recording of solo piano music by six women composers called Playing the Ivory Moon. Also, her research on the singing of women in the early Christian church is included in an anthology entitled "Music in Performance and Society: Essays in Honor of Roland Jackson" published by Harmonie Park Press. Her performances during the 1997-98 school year included: a concert with storyteller Angela Lloyd, a program on women and creativity with Janet Sage, four concerts with Trio Sirena, two concerts with duo-piano partner Robert Sage, two concerts with soprano Juliette Singler and a solo recital of women composers.
