 COURSE DESCRIPTION:

Covers the Java language and object-oriented programming for development of business applications. Topics covered include: the significance of Java as an object-oriented programming tool, classes and methods, input and output, arrays, inheritance, information hiding, polymorphism, encapsulation, primitive types, flow control, interfaces, packages, and the Java API. A combination of CIM 7A and 7B may be taken a total of four times.

 COURSE OBJECTIVES:

Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  1. 1. Describe the Java programming language and demonstrate the
    use of the common Java development tools.
    2. Diagram the Java standard packages and explain the use of  interfaces.
    3. Prepare Java programs to perform specified functionality.
    4. Demonstrate knowledge of the Java API.
    5. Interpret diagnostic messages and logic errors and select  appropriate debugging alternatives to obtain correct  output.
    6. Create and maintain an electronic portfolio.

 Course Grading 

Class will have nine homework assignments, these assignments will be taken from end of chapter “Programming Projects”. Each homework assignment is worth ten homework points. All students will have the option to obtain extra credit by completing the tic tac toe extra credit project. Since this class meets only once a week, you will be required to supply an e-mail address that you use frequently, preferably you can forward saddleback account e-mail’s to your main e-mail. When sending me e-mails, make sure you include CIM7A in the subject line.

Assignments are due on the date specified on the assignment. Late assignments handed in by one week after the assignment was due will be penalized by 50% of the grade for that assignment. Assignments later than one week late will not be accepted. 

TESTS: 

        We will have three tests comprising 50% of the grade. The final is just another test. All tests are online. . Each chapter will have a corresponding on-line quiz, quizzes are repeatable highest quiz grade is recorded. Once you start a quiz make sure you complete it..

DROPPING THE CLASS/ATTENDANCE:
It is the student's responsibility to officially withdraw (drop) from the class. Students who no longer attend class but do not withdraw will receive a failing grade ("F") at the end of the semester. Attendance is not part of the course grade, but students are expected to attend all class meetings. Students who do not attend the first class sessions, or who miss any two class sessions (6 or more classroom hours) may be dropped from the course by the instructor. Detailed attendance policy is maintained online.

 

 Students with disabilities are entitled to appropriate accommodations.  If you have specific disabilities requiring accommodations, let your instructor know the first 10 days of the semester so that your learning needs may be met and for referral to the Special Services office where documentation of your disability will be provided to receive services and accommodations.  The Special Services Office is in Student Services Center, Room 113.

Individual nd small group counseling information such as academic planning and review of transcripts is available by appointment. All other student services are available on campus during normal business hours.

 

REGRADING POLICY:

Sometimes you get a grade that you don't like, usually for one of the following reasons:

 

1.  There was a clerical error  (i.e., the points were added up wrong).

2.  You think you did something right, and I think you did it wrong.

 

If you discover a clerical error, tell me immediately. The following Statute of Limitations will apply: You have one week from the day any graded assignment or test is returned to you to appeal the grade you received. After one week, I will assume that you believe the grade you got is the correct one. After one week, grades are unchangeable, fixed, and permanent.

Any exceptions to the above statements will be considered individually & only if you approach me about the proposed exception at least a week in advance .
