CIMW245 Intro PHP/CMS Overview

Basic introudction to PHP server-side scripting language. PHP is the most used server-side scripting language. PHP is a recursive acromion, standing for PHP Hyper Text Preprocessor. A PHP file is execute by a PHP engine, the output is a dynamic Web Page. Blackboard videos demonstrated all PHP code. You don't need to write PHP scripts from scratch.

In last 10 years, PHP has become the most used language for developing CMS (Content Management Systems), the most popular open source CMS system is WordPress. Class has a full set of Web-casts on installing,configuring and altering WordPress.

Class also covers the basics of E-Commerce including payment gateways, configuring WordPress with a buy now button and a look at the very well recommended PrestaShop.

CIMW105 SQL/MySQL

Structured Query Language (SQL) has become the standard for communicating to a Relational Database Management System (RDBMS). RDBMS have become the de facto standard for organizing data. MySQL is the most popular open source RDBSS and also has full support for PHP integration.

Everytime you access blackboard, Facebook or perform a credit card transaction you are accessing RDBMS.

In 2008, Sun Microsystems purchased MySQL. This $1 Billion purchased was geared toward moving MySQL from the most popular Web Database system, into a mainstream fortune 500 database. However, in 2009 Oracle purchased Sun Microsystems, Oracle is positioning MySQL as a Microsoft SQL Server competitor. MySQL is being supporting but Maria DB may be the next open source alternative.
