Introduction Trees and Shrubs is a class designed to provide the fundamentals of plant materials used in planting environments of southern California. This class will emphasize plant names, height and spread, life history, growth rate, functional and aesthetic values, special tolerances and adaptations, pruning methods and pest and disease susceptibility, and general maintenance of plants.

Lecture: The lecture period will discuss each weeks plant list and general topics. Come to each lecture prepared to write down information about each plant. There will be a midterm and a final exam each covering such items as landscape uses, cultural requirements, growth habits, and more. Field Trips There are several field trips this semester. You will be visiting local nurseries and arboreta to study mature plant material. More details on location and times will be forthcoming. |
