DRAFT #09AY0203
Accommodated Testing
Resolution
Whereas accommodated
testing for students with disabilities is mandated by federal and state
legislation, and
Whereas over 500
accommodated tests were administered at this college each semester including
midterm and final examinations, and
Whereas Special Services
has operated this service for full-time and associate faculty in the past using
hourly proctors, readers, scribes and a classified coordinator position that
are now vacant due to budget cuts, and
Whereas faculty have been
forced to make arrangements for such accommodations independent of Special
Services staff this semester due to Special services budget cuts and increased
costs, and
Whereas faculty have
neither appropriate space nor appropriate teaching schedules to provide needed
and mandated testing accommodations, requiring faculty to administer tests at
additional times with additional services including oral administration and
extra time which represent additional duties for faculty;
Be it resolved that the
Saddleback College Academic Senate supports general fund budget supplements to
the Special Services Department to allow 10 reinstatement of the classified
position which is now vacant, in order to coordinate accommodated test proctoring
services and 20 payment to hourly proctors, readers and scribes for delivery of
accommodated testing services to students with disabilities at Saddleback
College.
