Celebrate Picasso-Style! UPDATED JUNE 10, 2010

News for Future Students

The Honors Program is welcoming many new applicants right now. We consider applications all year, but eligibility for priority registration for the Fall 2010 semester has now passed.

If you are an incoming student interested in the Honors Program, it is still possible to take Honors classes (if there's room); they are open to all. For information on the Honors Program attend one of the workshops we hold with the Transfer Center. Get dates and times at http://www.saddleback.edu/transfer/workshops.html or visit our Facebook page.

invitation Rebuilding Haiti's Schools:
An Ongoing Effort!
Haiti Quake Benefit
Honors Program student John Williams coordinated an on-campus gathering during the final exam week of Spring 2010. Here's his letter:

Hello All,

This is a friendly reminder that, while the earthquake that rocked Haiti has seen its time on the global stage and since passed from the public eye, the Haitian people still suffer greatly. The masses of displaced victims have taken up refuge in the lowlands, relying on donated tents and rubbish for shelter, and while medical support has been inspiring, it surely can not meet the demand.

This lack of medical aid will only be compounded by the rainy season that threatens to flood these lowland tent towns. The rains will bring disease, debris, and filth from the wreckage and rubble left behind by the quake.

The rebuilding of Haiti is sure to be a long and difficult journey; a journey that will test the strength and determination of the Haitian spirit, but it is not a journey that is to be made alone.

The Haitian School Initiative is rebuilding temporary schools in the hardest hit areas of Haiti; their goal is to bring Haiti's children and young adults back to school as soon as possible. These schools afford those hardest hit by the quake (the children) the safety and security of a school, as well as, a nurse, nutritious meals, education, and instruction. These schools are essential for returning Haiti's children to some sort of normalcy. We can help build these schools!

Please join us for the showing of the PBS documentary, which inspired this event, "The Quake." The event will be held in the auditorium hall of the BGS building, room number BGS 254 on Tuesday May 18th at 8:15pm. This event has been scheduled late specifically to give those students and faculty with finals testing the opportunity to show their support and attend the event after the days testing is complete.

For more information on The Haitian School Initiative visit stillerstrong.org. Please show your support for this amazing cause by attending "The Quake" Tuesday, May 18th at 8:15pm in BGS 254. Donations will be very strongly encouraged, so bring CASH!!!!!! Thanks so much for your time in reading this note, I hope to see you all there.

Sincerely,

John Williams

The Transfer Center is moving to CC 1. CC (Classroom Cluster) is the old temporary (!?) building on upper campus between BGS and SSC, so the Transfer Center will be very easy to find.

All Honors Program students who wish to remain in good standing must show documentation each semester that they have met with a Transfer Center counselor. If you're planning to apply to a transfer school for Fall 2011, see a counselor over the summer! Contact the Transfer Center to make an appointment. Be sure to tell them you're an Honors Program student.
