Admission Procedures and Standards
The Honors Program serves two populations: (1) "Program students," who wish to participate fully in the program, complete it, and be eligible for Honors transfer opportunities; and (2) "Non-Program" students, who are interested in taking only one or two Honors classes as part of their educational experience at Saddleback.
"Program Students" must complete an application, which is available at the Honors Program Office, BGS 316. Program students should meet the following two criteria:
Be English 1A-eligible (via placement exam, AP test, or English 200)
Have a 3.25 G.P.A. in all work (for entering freshmen, in high school work)
Because past performance does not always indicate future potential, the Honors Board evaluates all applications on an individual basis whether or not the G.P.A. requirement is initially met. However, in order to be certified as completing the Program and be made eligible for the transfer agreements, a student must achieve a 3.25 overall and in Honors courses at the time transfer is sought.
"Non-Program Students" may enroll in any Honors course in which space is available, subject to completion of any prerequisites, with instructor permission. Permission may be obtained the first week of classes.
