Welcome To Our Program

The phlebotomy curriculum prepares the student for employment as a Phlebotomist in a hospital, laboratory, or clinic setting. The training is designed to prepare students to collect specimens, do venipunctures, and clean and maintain medical laboratory equipment.

Official high school transcripts or proof of GED are required for state certification. If you attended high school in another country, you must have your transcripts translated to English and then submit them to the American Association fo Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (AACRO) for evaluation to ensure that the education received is equivalent to U.S. high school.

This is a sixteen week course that does not have an application process and does not have prerequisites. Due to the limited amount of clinical sites, this class remains impacted.

You do need to fill out a free on-line application with the college and then you will receive a registration time.

Minimum Qualifications

*Must be 18 years old
*High School or GED
*Valid CPR for Healthcare Workers prior to clinical
*Physical/Immunizations prior to clinical
*Background Check prior to clinical
*Ability to work at a clinical site for 2-3 weeks during regular daytime hours

Clinical Work Experience (CWE)

Enrollment in CWE 181 (Cooperative Work Experience: Phlebotomist) will provide the necessary 120 hours of clinical experience required to complete this program. The CWE is completed at a lab/hospital within close proximity of the college and available Monday-Friday only. The shift can start from anytime 3am-8am and you need to work an entire 8-hour shift. You may only complete the CWE at a lab/hospital in which we have a contract. Liability Insurance, healthcare provider CPR card, a back ground check and a physical exam are required to be completed prior to your clinical experience. These requirements will be outlined in the first class session with appropriate paperwork. Successful completion of both PHLB 240 (Phlebotomist Procedures) and CWE 181 will lead to certification as a Phlebotomist.

Phlebotomy 241 Class Prerequisites

We also offer PHLB 241 for those experienced lab students who can present verfiable paperwork signed off by your Lab Director.
