USING COMMUNICATOR EMAIL

Double-click on Netscape Communicator icon. Double-click on the envelope/box icon (located at the lower right corner of screen) to open mail.

RECEIVE YOUR MESSAGES - top of page
  1. Click Icon GET MSG
  2. Enter your email password. (Asks for password first time you retrieve email during your session.)
  3. Click OK
  4. Your mail messages now appears. If you do not see your message, click the triangle located lower left corner to open the message window.

TO CREATE NEW MESSAGE - top of page

  1. Click Icon NEW MSG OR
  2. Go to MESSAGE menu
  3. Click NEW MSG
  4. To: jsmith@saddleback.edu
    (You must use the complete email address)
  5. Subject: test
  6. Text Type your message.

TO SPELLCHECK BEFORE SENDING MESSAGES - top of page

  1. Click EDIT.
  2. Then PREFERENCES
  3. Under the CATEGORY section, select MESSAGES
  4. One the right side, click on the checkbox for SPELLCHECK MESSAGES BEFORE SENDING
  5. Click OKAY.

Click Send icon when ready to send.

TO DELETE A MESSAGE -top of page
Click on message and then press the Delete key

TO SAVE AN UNSENT MESSAGE - top of page

  1. After creating a message, click the Save icon.
  2. The message is filed into the Drafts folder. If you want to edit the message, open the Drafts folder and double-click to edit message.
  3. When completed click Send icon

TO RESEND A MESSAGE - top of page

  1. Click on the triangle located in Inbox window and select Sent Folder.
  2. Click to select your message.
  3. Go to top of menu to File and pull down to Edit Message.
  4. Make your corrections and click Send when completed.

FILING YOUR MESSAGES INTO DIFFERENT FOLDERS - top of page

  1. Highlight the INBOX
  2. RIGHT click
  3. Select NEW SUBFOLDER
  4. Create a name
  5. Now drag and drop the appropriate email into the subfolders

TO ATTACH A FILE OR WEB PAGE - top of page

  1. Click the Attach icon and choose File or Web Page.
  2. File - If you want to attach a File
    Locate the file from your computer or diskette. Double-click and the file path will be displayed. Click OK.
  3. Web - If you want to attach a Web Page
    Enter in the location address (URL)
    (ex: http://www.saddleback.edu)
    Click OK.

ADDRESS BOOK - top of page

  1. Go to Communicator at top menu Pull down to Address Book
  2. Personal Address Book

ADD A USER - top of page

  1. Click New Card icon
  2. First Name (Required field)
  3. E-Mail address (Required field)
  4. Click OK

ADD A LIST - top of page

  1. Click New List icon
  2. List Name (Required field)
  3. List Nickname
  4. Click OK

TO EMPTY TRASH - top of page

You must Empty your mail in the trash folder
Go to File menu and pull down to Empty Trash Folder

ADD USERS TO A LIST - top of page

  1. Go to Address Book.
  2. Double-click on the list to open. Click and drag user to the list.
  3. For two or more users hold down Shift key while selecting.
  4. Type in email address of user and press RETURN to add each entry.
  5. If you receive a message and would like to add the person to your address book, click the highlighted email address and an address card will appear with the email address entered.

When mail arrives, a green appears next to the inbox in the lower right status bar of the Communicator window.

1. To close the preview pane, click on the bar that turns purple in the center of the screen.

SETTING MULTIPLE USER PROFILES
NETSCAPE COMMUNICATOR MAIL

Click on START

  • Go up to PROGRAMS
  • NETSCAPE COMMUNICATOR
  • UTILITIES
  • USER PROFILE MANAGER

Profile Manager window opens

  1. Click NEW
  2. Click NEXT
  3. Enter the information
    Full Name: John Smith
    Email Address: jsmith@saddleback.edu
  4. Click NEXT
    Profile Name: jsmith
  5. Click NEXT
    Your Name: John Smith
    Email address: jsmith@saddleback.edu
    Outgoing mail: mail.socccd.cc.ca.us
  6. Click NEXT
    Mail server username: jsmith
    Incoming mail server: mail.socccd.cc.ca.us
    Pop3
  7. Click NEXT
  8. Click FINISH

Remember to delete any messages you create or receive from your INBOX or SENT folders. EMPTY TRASH. Others will be able to read existing messages if not deleted or trash emptied. They will NOT be able to retrieve any of your NEW mail.

NSNOTIFY - The little red flag notifier

 

Go to START

  1. SETTINGS
  2. TASKBAR
  3. Click on the START MENU PROGRAM tab
  4. Click ADD
  5. Click BROWSE (double-click to open folders)
  6. Locate C Drive and open,
  7. Open Program Files
  8. Open Netscape
  9. Open Communicator
  10. Open Program
  11. Locate nsnotify.exe and open
  12. Click NEXT
  13. Scroll down to START UP and open
  14. Click FINISH
  15. Go to START to SHUTDOWN
  16. Click Restart computer

Your mail notification will now appear on your taskbar as an envelope. When new mail has arrived a red flag will wave. Just double-click on the envelope and your mail will open. No programs need to be running for notification.
