I have been interested in geography since I was about five years old when my father brought home an atlas in order to cut out the pictures of the flags for a graphic design project. That atlas got me hooked, and I've never looked back.
After growing up in Connecticut, I studied geography and journalism at Syracuse University in Syracuse, NY (the snowiest city in the United States!). After working and traveling for several years, I decided to continue studying geography, and all that snow made it easy to come to San Diego State University to pursue my master's in geography.
My research has primarily focused on cultural and urban geography, with a focus on urban planning, but I love to learn about and to teach physical geography as well.
In my spare time, I enjoy traveling to foreign countries, camping and hiking, reading nonfiction books, trying new foods and beers, and rooting for the New York Mets, New York Giants, and Syracuse University basketball and football teams.
