Reading Lab Classes

Reading Lab Modules:

ENGLISH 333 - READING SKILLS LAB
ENGLISH 332 - ESL READING LAB
ENGLISH 336 - EXPANDED READING SKILLS LAB
ENGLISH 337 - CRITICAL READING LAB
These lab classes are designed to help improve spelling, reading, comprehension, reading rate, vocabulary, or study skills as you work at your own pace independent of formal class structure. You meet with the lab instructor for diagnosis and program planning, then work independently on the assigned material. These classes offer an excellent opportunity to brush up on skills and earn credit when there is no time in your schedule for a 3 unit class, or to develop needed strategies once the semester has begun and it is too late to enroll in a class. Open entry, open exit - students may register for and complete a lab class anytime throughout the semester.

Reading Skills for College:

ENG 340 - READING SKILLS FOR COLLEGE
Corequisite: ENG 341
Designed to bring students' reading abilities and study skills to college-level proficiency. Emphasis is on individual help and careful progress to develop reading confidence and ease.

Spelling Skills for College:

ENG 334 - SPELLING SKILLS FOR COLLEGE
Corequisite: ENG 335
Designed to help students identify individual spelling deficiencies and learn basic spelling rules. The causes of spelling errors and correct pronunciation will be discussed. Through classroom instruction, lab use and testing, students will learn to sharpen their spelling ability.

Speed Reading and Comprehension Training

ENG 180 - SPEED READING AND COMPREHENSION TRAINING
Designed to improve critical awareness, to double or triple the students' initial reading rate(s) while maintaining comprehension, and to expand college-level vocabulary. Reading flexibility is emphasized with attention to learning how to rapid read, skim, scan, study read, and read critically.
