Punctuation
|
| |
An example of how punctuation can change the meaning of a sentence.
There's a story, possibly an urban myth, about a teacher asking a class to correctly punctuate the words
"woman without her man is a savage".
The men in the class wrote ``Woman, without her man, is a savage.''
The women in the class wrote ``Woman: without her, man is a savage.''

Love Letter - The actual letter was meant to read:
Dear John:
I want a man who knows what love is all about. You are generous, kind,
thoughtful. People who are not like you admit to being useless and
inferior. You have ruined me for other men. I yearn for you. I have no
feelings whatsoever when we're apart. I can be forever happy--will you
let me be yours?
Gloria
It ended up being read as:
Dear John:
I want a man who knows what love is. All about you are generous, kind,
thoughtful people, who are not like you. Admit to being useless and
inferior. You have ruined me. For other men, I yearn. For you, I have
no feelings whatsoever. When we're apart, I can be forever happy. Will
you let me be?
Yours,
Gloria
