My EXPERIENCE WITH TUTORING
My Experience with working at the Learning Assistance Program has been such a wonderful experience. I first heard about the L.A.P. from Professor Gary Luke, my English 300 teacher, when I attended Saddleback college for the first time. It was scary actually, because I was still a senior in high school. I didn't know how college was like. Attending Gary Luke's class was fun, but I still didn't feel as comfortable with the college atmosphere yet, until I came to the L.A.P.

I had problems with writing essays. Professor Luke had always urged his students to take advantage of the L.A.P., he said that it was free tutoring. I thought to myself, “How neat! Free tutoring? For college”? So I decided to visit the L.A.P. for the first time. Everybody was so welcoming. People were always smiling. The whole place was filled with positive energy. Most of all, I finally felt welcomed and comfortable with college. T he L.A.P. has changed my college experience into a good experience.

I often visited the L.A.P. to get tutoring for my essays. Every time I'd come in, Linda would always greet me with a hello at the front desk. I fell in love with this place. Not only did I get tutoring for English, but I also got tutoring for my Pre- Calculus. Boy was that a struggle, until I met Song and the rest of the math tutors. They made Pre-Calculus so much easier for me. I especially miss Song. Although he doesn't remember me, I will always remember him. Without any questions asked, he was the first person who came up to me to help me with math. I realized most of the L.A.P. tutors, had a true passion to help others.

From then on, I started visiting the L.A.P. on a daily basis, because it helped me so much for college and my last year of high school. Often times, I found myself helping others with math and discussing about teachers. I found so many tips for college, especially for a graduating senior who wasn't sure about how the college system worked. I felt such a great vibe, and was inspired all over again. That's when I really thought about tutoring at the L.A.P.

Since I sarted tutoring, I've gained a better knowledge in life. I've learned things about myself by learning about others. There is such diversity at the L.A.P., from older adults to young adults, and from different people of different backgrounds. I enjoy meeting these people. They have so much to say, and such much for me to learn. Most importantly, they have such high motivation to learn, and that is what keeps me inspired to help others. It's a great feeling when I get out there to help someone. I get a lot of self-respect for myself when I see people smile.

Furthermore, the L.A.P. has been like a second home to me. I hope that every person, who walks through the door, will walk out feeling the way that I do. I also hope to stay with the L.A.P. for as long I can. I hope that in the future, L.A.P. will still be the same. I'm looking forward to visiting this place in ten or twenty more years. The L.A.P. continues to be a wonderful experience in my life, and a memory that I will not forget.
