Immediately after graduation from nursing school, I spent 2 years at University of Maryland Shock Trauma in the Neuro-trauma Unit. A wonderful experience but not recommended as a first job! I retired this year after 25 years at Hoag Hospital in Critical Care as a staff nurse, a charge nurse and a House supervisor. I also was an educator for the surgical floors, the Neurosurgical Intensive Care Unit and Hyperbaric Oxygenation Unit.
Starting in 1998, I was adjunct faculty at Saddleback College, California State University- Long Beach, Goldenwest College, and Cypress College. I have taught lectures and/or labs in Fundamentals of Nursing, Medical Surgical Nursing, Physical Assessment, Maternal/Child, and Critical Care at those various schools. I have completed my specialty certification in Nursing Education. I love nursing and my passion is encouraging students to reach their potential and exceed their expectations.
I have been full time faculty here at Saddleback since Fall 2004. I have taught in N170 Fundamentals, N172 Medical Surgical Nursing, N173 Pediatrics, N174 OB, N176 Advanced Medical Surgical Nursing and N244 & N245 IV Therapy Techniques for Nurses.(Pretty much "everything but Psych!" Even the pre-nursing course N204 and the Success in Nursing N202.). Since 2005 I have been the Case Manager of the Fostering Student Success for the nursing program and developed a passion for helping students succeed. This year I have the pleasure of teaching both a portion of lecture and a section of the clinical lab in the N170 Fundamentals course and N202.
I am currently serving on the executive board as Treasurer of the newly reactivated California League of Nursing, an affiliate of the National League. The National League of Nursing promotes excellence in nursing education to build a strong and diverse nursing workforce. It is the voice of nursing education.
Personal: I have four grown sons, who keep me sharp and a wonderful husband, who keeps me sane & makes me laugh, and the newest member of the family is my "junk yard dog" a Rhodesian Ridgeback/Mastiff mix rescue who encourages me to walk and "take time to smell the roses". Stop by my office for candy and I’ll show you pictures of my beautiful granddaughter and delightful grandson. I love to travel. When I finally slow down, I love to curl up with a good book.
