How do I find books on reserve? Where are they located?
Search for the title you need in the search box on the library homepage. If the library has the reserve title you need, you can check it out at the circulation desk using your student ID number and a photo ID. Most reserve books are available for 2 hours at a time (for use only in the library).
How do I find materials in the library
Periodicals (magazines and newspapers) are located on the shelves in front of the reference desk.
New books are displayed on the counter above the periodicals.

The bone boxes are located at the circulation desk and are checked out on a first come, first served basis. They are available for 3 hours at a time and are in high demand, so please be prepared to share.
Can a non-student check out materials and use the library computers?
District residents over 18 years of age may purchase a 6 month library card for $10 with a valid California driver's license. Residents may check out up to four books at one time for a four-week period.
Community Users who wish to use library computers must obtain a username and password from staff at the circulation desk. You must be a district resident over 18 years of age and present a current valid ID, such as, California driver's license or military ID. You may access computers within a few minutes of creating an account.

I’m looking for a specific item. How do I find out if the library has a book, journal or article? You can start your search on the library homepage. http://www.saddleback.edu/library/ Enter your search term/title/author, etc in the box and click the correct tab for Books, Articles, All, or Texbook-Reserve. Then click Go. Once you land on a results page, you can narrow your search in the left panel. Once you find your item, you will be able to see if it is available at Saddleback College. If you do not see what you are looking for, you can click on “Advanced Search” on the top of the page in order to add additional search terms, add the IVC Library or worldwide libraries.

How do I check out an item from the library?
Proceed to the circulation desk to check materials out of the library. You will use your student ID number and any official photo ID, such as your driver’s license, a California ID or a passport.

Saddleback College students can check out up to 9 items at one time.

You may renew library materials in person, online or on the phone.
1. In-person - you can go to the circulation desk to renew materials during regular library hours.
2. You can login to your your My Library account to renew books online using your Blackboard login username and password.

How do I place a book on hold?
Once you have located a book in the catalog, click on the “Place Hold” button located under the status information and enter your Blackboard login username and password information. The library will email you when your book is ready for pick-up.
How do I request a book through Inter-Library Loan (ILL) and how long does it take?
You may request a book through ILL in person or online. It usually takes about two weeks (although sometimes it might take longer) to receive items from other libraries.
1. You may visit the reference desk and or call (949) 582-4525 and the librarian will assist you in requesting a book through ILL.
2. You may request materials through ILL through your My Library account. Find your resource online, log into to your My Library account. If the item you need is available through ILL, you will be able to click on the ILL Request box, fill in the necessary information and you will be contacted once the item has arrived. If you do not pick up the requested materials within three weeks, they will be returned to the lending library.
I have a fine, what can I do? How can I view the fine?
All fines can be paid at the circulation desk. You may view your fines in your My Library account. Any unpaid fine will prevent students from registering, adding/dropping classes, transcripts or diplomas.
Where can I return my library materials?
All library materials can be returned directly to the circulation desk or in the Return bin in the library parking lot 7a.
Can I return books after the library is closed?
Yes, you can return library materials in the return bin in the library parking lot 7a.
