Matriculation Exemptions and Alternative Evidence
You may be exempt from all or part of the Matriculation process if you have completed 30 or more college units or if you choose one of the following educational goals. If you have any questions about your Matriculation status please call or e-mail the Matriculation office.
- Prepare for a new career (acquire job skills)
- Advance in current job/career (update job skills)
- Discover/Formulate career interests, plans, goals
- Earn a vocational certificate without transfer
- Maintain certificate or license
- Complete credits for HS diploma or GED
- Educational development
- 4-year college student taking courses to meet 4-year college requirements
English and Math Assessment Exemptions
Students may be exempt from the English portion of the assessment if you provide one or more forms of alternative evidence:
- Provide English assessment results with course placement from another community college.
- Provide an official or unofficial copy of your transcript(s) showing courses taken in English at one or more colleges or universities and have received a passing (C or better) final grade in the course. High school English courses CANNOT be used for this exemption.
- Provide proof of completion of the College Board Advanced Placement (AP)® English Lit/Comp or Lang/Comp exam with a score of 3 or better.
Students may be exempt from the math portion of the assessment if you provide one or more forms of alternative evidence:
- Provide math assessment (MDTP Test ONLY) results with a raw score from another community college.
- Provide an official or unofficial copy of your transcript(s) showing courses taken in Math at one or more colleges or universities and have received a passing (C or better) final grade in the course.
- Provide proof of completion of the College Board Advanced Placement (AP)® math Calculus AB or BC exam with a score of 3 or better..
Important things to remember:
- A College Prerequisite Evaluation Form is required when sending any of the above documents to our office. Evaluations can take up to 5 business days to complete so please submit your request at least 2 weeks prior to your registration period.
- Students that meet any one of the above exemptions may still be required to complete the remaining steps of the Matriculation process.
Refuse Matriculation Services
Students may refuse all of the Matriculation services including´s orientation, assessment, and group advisement or any one of the services individually. If a student waives his or her rights to participate in the matriculation process they will only be eligible to enroll in the entry level math (351) and/or English (300/340) courses or can provide alternative evidence (see below). To refuse one or more of the Matriculation services please complete the Request to Change Matriculation Status form and submit to the Saddleback College Matriculation Office or fax to 949.582.4789.
