Saddleback College Fashion Show to Feature Student Designs and Local Boutiques

Saddleback College students will celebrate urban style and colors at their annual fashion show, entitled “Express Yourself,” on Thursday, May 2nd at 7:00 p.m. in McKinney Theatre.  The production will feature pieces designed and created by Saddleback students as well as looks from local boutiques. Tickets for “Express Yourself” are $15 presale or $20 at the door and include a 5:30 p.m. reception featuring local vendors, a live street artist, and hors d'oeuvres made by culinary arts students. A portion of the ticket sales will go to student scholarships.

Dr. Tod A. Burnett, president of Saddleback College, stated, “This event provides a fun opportunity for students to show off the designs that they have been working on throughout the semester. I encourage everyone to come out for a great time and to support student scholarships.”

Diane McGroarty, who, along with Jennifer Backoff, teaches the class that produces the entire show, stated “I enjoy watching the students create the show from conception to completion -- it takes hours of dedication, in addition to their regular assignments. This year’s theme has inspired unique pieces and production that is sure to thrill the audience!”

A panel of industry professionals will select winning pieces for several prizes, including full size dress forms and scholarships for corsets, fantasy, ready-to-wear, evening wear, and a $500 scholarship for Best in Show. Hair and makeup for the show will be provided by Advance Beauty College and will be filmed by cinema, television, and radio students. Two local boutiques will also be showing pieces: Melrose in the O.C. and Swirl Boutique.
