Students in Saddleback College’s fashion department will celebrate Vegas style and colors at their annual fashion show, “City of Sin,” on Thursday, May 1st at 7:00 p.m. in McKinney Theatre. The production will feature pieces designed and created by more than 25 Saddleback student designers as well as looks from local boutiques.
The annual fashion show is produced by the students of the special events promotion and coordination course. This year's theme, "City of Sin," has inspired student designers to create Vegas style garments for their four fashion categories: corsets, evening wear, ready to wear, and fantasy – a unique non-textile garment.
Diane McGroarty, who teaches the class that produces the entire show, stated, “This is my ninth show and it’s going to be unique. We are collaborating with several college divisions to put on this year’s fashion show. Saddleback’s culinary arts department students will create and serve hors d’oeuvres, cosmetology department students will style model hair and makeup, and film students will film the show and create DVDs. It’s going to be new; it’s going to be different.”
A panel of local industry professionals will choose from more than 75 designs to select the show’s top three designers. The first-place winner will receive a $500 award for Best in Show.
Ticket’s for “City of Sin” are $15 presale or $20 at the door and include a 5:30 p.m. reception. A portion of the ticket sales will go to Saddleback’s Fashion Scholarship Fund.
