The inaugural OC Pathways Showcase was held yesterday at the Orange County Great Park to celebrate the first year of OC Pathways, a grant program initiated in 2014 by the California Department of Education that connects educators and industry leaders to equip students for college and career success.
Mission Viejo, CA – As one of the recipients of the competitive Latino Americans: 500 Years of History grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) and the American Library Association (ALA), Saddleback College will be screening episodes of the NEH-supported documentary film, “Latino Americans,” created for PBS in 2013. The award-winning series chronicles the history of Latinos in the United States from the 16th Century to present day.

Burnett, president of Saddleback College, welcomed more than 100 elected officials, business and industry leaders, and other community members at the college’s annual State of the College breakfast yesterday. The State of the College report is entitled “A Culture of Excellence” and outlines the college’s priorities for the 2015-2016 academic year.

The College For Kids program features academic classes like reading, writing, math, science and STEM, as well as foreign language offerings in Spanish and Mandarin. In addition, kids from 5 to 17 years old can explore acting, art, dance, and chess. Plus, there are swimming lessons for kids of all ages – even toddlers and their parents.
Saddleback College will recognize its 2,977 graduates and 1,367 certificate of achievement recipients at its annual commencement ceremony on Friday, May 22nd at 9:00 a.m. in the gymnasium. The event will feature the traditional processional and reading of the graduate’s names, and will feature Dr. Al Mijares, Orange County Superintendent of Schools, who will serve as commencement speaker.
During a surprise visit on campus yesterday by Orange County Department of Education Superintendent Al Mijares, Saddleback College Professor Karah Street, a biology instructor, was told she is Orange County’s Community College Professor of the Year during what she thought was a routine meeting with the college president, Dr. Tod A. Burnett. An entourage of Orange County Department of Education officials and representatives from Schools First Credit Union, Disneyland Resort, and the Orange County Register arrived at Dr.
The Saddleback College Nursing Program will honor 51 graduating nursing students in a symbolic candle lighting and pinning ceremony to be held on Tuesday, May 12th at 7:00 pm in the McKinney Theatre. Each graduate will receive a time-honored pin, a symbol of a nurse’s service to others, and their induction into the nursing profession.
