I am Professor Robert Farnsworth. I am a full time professor, and also the Department Chair of Horticulture and Landscape Design. Welcome! We in Horticulture and Landscape Design care a great deal for your success here at Saddleback College.
Horticulture dates back 3000 years. It is still hugely important today. It is the art and science of growing fruits, nuts, vegetables, herbs, grapes, (think food for the planet) and ornamentals.
I suggest you consider Hort 20 'Introduction to Horticulture' this semester. It is a transferrable science course. We cover topics from germination to compost, photosynthesis, organic vs synthetic fertilizers, propagation methods, container gardening, informed pruning...and everything it takes to make a plant grow healthy. You'll learn with hands-on experience in the gardens during lab.
I also invite you to consider Hort 7 'Intro to Landscape Design'.The drought has given rise to a significant increase in the demand for sustainable design; a cornerstone of our Department's programming. If you are considering upgrading your skills in your career, or if you are considering an exciting new career, definately check this out. You can make a good living in Landscape Design!!.
