SADDLEBACK COLLEGE

Social and Behavioral Sciences Division Meeting

Minutes - Thursday, September 12, 2013

  • Service Pins:

Caroline Gee – 5 years; David DiLeo – 20 years; Anne Cox – 35 years

  • Enrollment – Fall 2013:

A small number of classes were cancelled and or offered on contract. Low enrolled late-start classes were posted on the SBS Division home page, and course flyers sent to the Counseling Office.

The SBS Division has the largest number of online classes in the college. A Distance Education Task Force will be created this semester.  One of the issues to be addressed is “Regular Effective Contact” which is of concern for online and on-campus classes.

Department Chairs, Deans and Dr. Kathy Werle, Vice President for Instruction, will meet at least three times during the Fall 2013 semester to discuss setting up a Comprehensive Enrollment Management Plan.

  • Division Schedule – Spring 2014 – Activity Letters; Summer 2014- Teaching Requests:

Spring 2014 Activity Letters, and Summer 2014 teaching requests will be issued as soon as possible.

BGS 356 will remain closed during the Spring 2014 semester.

  • Regular Effective Contact – see #2 above.

  • ASG – Michael Nepomuceno, Director of Academic Affairs, 2013-2014

This academic year the Associated Student Governance (ASG) appointed directors in place of senators.  Michael Nepomuceno, Director of Academic Affairs, 2013-2014 has asked to be contacted with suggestions for ways in which the ASG Academic Affairs might work with divisions and departments.  Faculty is encouraged to ask ASG for assistance with any special events departments may have. The ASG grant to the SBS Division has been reduced, faculty should contact department chairs for details.

  • SharePoint – new collaboration tool

Anthony Maciel, Director of Technology Services & Broadcast Systems, sent an e-mail

about SharePoint on Wednesday, September 11, 2013. Minutes for college-wide

meetings will now be posted on SharePoint for those unable to attend any college

meeting.

  • Online Educator Program to be discontinued after Summer 2014 semester –

Claire Cesareo and Christina Smith have contacted faculty who have taken more than one of the five courses in the Online Educator Program to see who would be interested in completing the course during Spring and Summer 2014 semesters.

  • Updates- Academic Senate; Faculty Association; Committee Reports

Academic Senate - SBS Division Senators: Howard Gensler, June Millovich and Maureen Smith
