Special Benefits for Child Development Majors

Child Development Book Loan Program

Child Development Majors who are currently working in the field with children ages 0-5 are eligible for a text book loan for the duration of their course.

Book requests are due no later than 2 WEEKS PRIOR to start date of class.

Forms that are incomplete or late will not be processed.

Books must be returned the last day of class to BGS 314.

or fax to: 949-347-7363. Forms can also be mailed to:

or dropped off in BGS 314.

Alert: Non-return of book loans will result in an incomplete grade and a fee of $100 per book payable to the Child Development Department.



Tuition Reimbursement for Child Development Majors

The Child Development Training Consortium is a federal block grant funded program that provides funding to reimburse at least partial tuition costs for Child Development Majors at Saddleback College.

  • This reimbursement does not interfere with or prevent access to other financial aid funds.
  • If you attend other colleges during the same semester, you must submit a separate applicatioin to each college.

Instructions to Determine Eligibility and Complete Application Process

  1. Determine if you are eligible. You must be able to answer “yes” to both of the questions below.
    1. Are taking courses at Saddleback that apply to any level of the Child Development Permit? https://www.childdevelopment.org/cs/cdtc/print/htdocs/services_permit.htm
      This includes both Child Development and General Education Courses.
    2. Are you currently working in California with children ages 0-5 for 15 or more hours per week in a licensed or license exempt setting?
      Child Center Staff, Family Childcare, and Before/After School Care only –Nannies are not eligible at this time
    If you answered “yes” to both questions, you are eligible.  Read the new directions for the Tuition Rembursement Application Process (2 steps: Online and Signed Hard Copy)

Due Dates:

Fall Application Due Date October 31st

  • Grade and Documentation Due Date February 2nd 2015

Spring Application Due Date Friday March 6th (note this is earlier than previously posted)

  • Grade and Evaluation Documentation Due Date Monday June 1st 2015

Funding is not available for Summer Classes

Paid Work Experience Opportunties

We have an opportunity this semester to provide paid work experience for students!

  • Positions are up to 20 hours per week (Schedule to be determined by the Faculty and Center Director)
  • Rate of pay will be $10.00 per hour
  • Positions are for one semester each and are renewable

To See If You Qualify!!

Teacher Assistant
Teacher assistants must be Child Development majors at Saddleback College and be enrolled in at least 6 units during the semester in which they are working. Teacher assistants will work at a Child Development Center as assistants to the classroom teachers providing activities and care for children ages 2-6. Students in CD 110 and 121 may use the hours to meet their lab requirement as teacher assistants.

Specialized Assistant
Specialized assistants must major in one of the listed or related departments and be enrolled in at least 6 units during the semester. Specialized assistants are students from other majors such as Horticulture, Art, Nutrition, or Aquaculture, who are interested in applying their talents and skills in early childhood settings, assisting teachers with outdoor environments, developing projects with different art mediums, assisting with snack and meal components, and assisting with science observation areas.

  • a letter of recommendation from an instructor in your major
  • a resume with contact information, educational experience and employment history
  • a paragraph describing your preparation and experience that would make you a successful candidate for this position
  • a copy of your MySite academic record
