- The Student Health Center provides treatment for acute, short term illnesses and
minor injuries, general health screening and other health maintenance procedures.
An overview of health issues addressed includes but is not limited to:
Treatment for
conditions such as infections, sexually transmitted diseases, sprains, rashes,
acne, and flu.
Screening for blood pressure, vision, hearing, cervical cancer (PAP
Smears), testicular cancer, and sexually transmitted diseases including HIV.
- A Registered Nurse is available
to assist the student during all operational hours. Appointments with the Physician must be scheduled by the front office personnel
or will be arranged after assessment by a Registered Nurse. As a courtesy to
your fellow students, please cancel at least 24 hours in advance if necessary.
- Every Healthcare Provider
in the Student Health Center is licensed by the State of California in their
professional field of practice.
- Every student can expect
their right to privacy will be protected. All discussions, examinations, and
treatment of a student will be conducted in privacy.
- All communications and
records relating to the student are confidential. The student's written permission
must be obtained before information is released to anyone, including parents
(see statement on minors below) and college officials. Exceptions required by
law include reporting certain communicable diseases, threats of suicide or homicide,
or suspected child abuse.
- Our Consent for Medical
Treatment must be signed by the parent or legal guardian of any student less
than 18 years of age before the student can access services in the Student Health
Center. Three exceptions to this rule exist:
Minors who have married, joined the armed services or have obtained a court emancipation order are entitled to medical care without parental consent.
Minors seeking counseling for family planning or chemical dependence are allowed by California law to do so without parental consent.
Parental consent is not required for minors who experience a medical emergency necessitating basic first aid or transport by paramedics to the nearest emergency room.
